Tell us a bit about your background and what drew you to the electric vehicle (EV) industry.
I started as an HGV technician and advanced to roles like Commercial Director in vehicle hire. Most recently, I was the Strategic Development Manager at Logistics UK. My interest in electric vehicles grew from driving them and working on related projects, where I witnessed challenges such as limited information and charging infrastructure. Growing up in a diesel-centric world, I embrace the shift to electric and I’m eager to contribute to its development.
What excites you most about joining our team at this time?
I’m thrilled to be part of the sales team at Dawsongroup vans! This role presents a unique opportunity to support both our internal teams and external customers in embracing the transition to EVs. I understand that the switch can seem daunting for some, but I’m passionate about simplifying that journey through clear communication and guidance. My goal is to help as many customers as possible navigate their transition to EVs, making it an exciting and rewarding experience.
What experience do you bring from previous roles that will help our customers and team?
With years in the automotive industry, I’ve developed the ability to communicate effectively across different levels of an organisation. I’ve dedicated my career to supporting individuals and teams as they adapt their working practices, and I’m eager to leverage that experience to assist our customers in their electrification journey. My background enables me to understand both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, allowing me to provide the best possible support.
What are some common misconceptions about EVs that you often come across?
Many people worry about how far they can travel on a single charge, but when you think about it, refuelling an EV is similar to traditional vehicles. Just like with any car, if it’s running low, you simply recharge it! I remember my days with my Mk2 Escort, often running on fumes because I couldn’t afford much petrol. Just like that old Escort, when an EV runs out of charge, it needs a boost to keep going—but with some planning, you’ll almost never find yourself in that situation!
What advice would you give to someone considering their first electric vehicle?
I recommend filtering out the noise from individuals who spread misinformation based on hearsay or rumours. Instead, do your own research, ask questions, and give an EV a real chance! Make decisions based on facts rather than fiction. With a well-timed transition plan, making the switch not only saves you money but also streamlines your driving experience in the long run.
What’s your favourite EV model right now—and why?
I am currently driving the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, which I have nicknamed ‘The Beast’! It’s an absolute joy to drive! The comfort level is outstanding, and it comes equipped with all the driving aids you could possibly need. Plus, it looks pretty cool! For me, it perfectly embodies the excitement of what EVs have to offer.
