J Brand began trading as a London-based electrical services contractor in 1933. In the last 35 years, J Brand has experienced significant evolution and expansion and they now offer a nationwide service, predominantly within the retail and hospitality sectors. They provide network infrastructure, IT support, CCTV installation and many more associated services which run alongside their traditional electrical installation. In 1998, J Brand opened its purpose-built commissioning and distribution centre in Runcorn, Cheshire, to accommodate offering break-fix support and maintenance services.
Due to the breadth of services J Brand offers nationwide, having a flexible, reliable network of vans to support their workforce is essential. This requirement led to J Brand engaging with Dawsongroup back in 2012. Dan Little, Commercial Director at J Brand, said “We engaged with Dawsongroup on a trial basis to test the waters. Very quickly, we established that Dawsongroup had a very similar ethos to J Brand with service at the heart of everything they did, which has consequently led to us forming a strong relationship over the past 11 years”.
“One of the best parts of working with Dawsongroup is the flexibility they offer. Working within the retail and hospitality sector, we need the flexibility to swap vehicles in and out, choosing those that best fit the job in hand. Dawsongroup provides us with this agility, whilst also removing the headache of managing a dynamic fleet of vans”.
Over the years, J Brand moved its entire fleet of 80-100 vans over to Dawsongroup. One of the main drivers behind this decision was the high level of service that J Brand receive from the team at Dawsongroup vans. Dan Ramm, Fleet & Asset Manager at J Brand, said “Dawsongroup vans really do put us first and I have never been let down by them. If I ever need a vehicle, they will bend over backwards to find me the right one, even if they need to ship one down from another branch, nothing is too much trouble.”
Dan also emphasised the importance of their personal relationship with the Dawsongroup operations team. He said, “Having the strong relationships with the Dawsongroup operations team means that I can pick up the phone and speak to someone who I know well. It gives me confidence that the job will get done and get done well.”
Looking at what the future holds for both J Brand and Dawsongroup vans, continued growth is something which both businesses are focused on. Guy Jones, Managing Director at J Brand, said “We are seeing steady, sustainable growth across the business, particularly within our break-fix services. With the break-fix jobs, having a reliable fleet becomes ever more important with some of these jobs requiring a 4-hour response time, so as long as Dawsongroup vans can continue to offer the flexibility and reliability in their service, our relationship will grow from strength to strength”.
